Roll 8d6: Fireball Damage Roller
This free 8d6 roller is for D&D 5e spellcasters who need Fireball damage in one tap. A 3rd-level Fireball is eight d6s. Choose a higher slot to add more d6s, then roll to see every face and the total. The main DnD dice roller still handles any other notation.
Tap to roll 8d6. A 3rd-level Fireball is 8d6.
Average for 8d6: 28 (before resistance or other changes).
How to use the 8d6 roller
Start at 8d6. That is the 3rd-level Fireball pool. Press the big die or Roll 8d6 to see the total and each face.
Upcast with a higher slot. Each slot level above 3rd adds 1d6. A 5th-level slot is 10d6. A 9th-level slot is 14d6. The average updates before you roll.
Read half damage when you need it. After a roll, the tool also shows half the total, rounded down, for a successful Dexterity saving throw. Roll that save on the d20 roller or the advantage roller.
Fireball damage by slot
| Slot level | Dice | Average |
|---|---|---|
| 3rd | 8d6 | 28 |
| 4th | 9d6 | 31.5 |
| 5th | 10d6 | 35 |
| 6th | 11d6 | 38.5 |
| 7th | 12d6 | 42 |
| 8th | 13d6 | 45.5 |
| 9th | 14d6 | 49 |
Those averages are just the dice. They do not include resistance, vulnerability, or features that change fire damage. Lightning Bolt uses the same 8d6 pool at 3rd level and the same upcast steps. This page is a damage preset, not a full spell write-up.

Roll 8d6 FAQ
Is this 8d6 roller free?
Yes. It is free, with no ads and no sign up. Open the page on any device and roll.
Why is Fireball 8d6?
A 3rd-level Fireball deals 8d6 fire damage. Each slot level above 3rd adds 1d6, so a 4th-level slot is 9d6 and a 9th-level slot is 14d6.
What is the average of 8d6?
The average of one d6 is 3.5, so eight d6s average 28. The possible totals run from 8 to 48. About 38.02% of those totals are 30 or higher.
What if the target succeeds on the Dexterity save?
A successful Dexterity saving throw means the target takes half damage, rounded down. After you roll, this page shows that halved total as a convenience. The save itself is a d20 roll.
Can I type 8d6 somewhere else?
Yes. The main dice roller accepts 8d6 and any other notation. This page is the dedicated preset for that common damage pool.
See the Nat20 Roller FAQ for more on notation, advantage and how rolls stay random.
