Inspiration tracker 5e: a tavern table with dice, a map and a spellbook ready for the next inspired roll

Inspiration Tracker 5e

This free inspiration tracker is for D&D 5e tables that want a simple mark for who still has inspiration. Add a character to award it, spend it when they use it, and see the list after a refresh. It is a thin tracker, not a character sheet.

Add a character to award inspiration. Spend it when they use it, then roll the check with advantage or reroll one die.

No one is on the tracker yet.

How to use the inspiration tracker

Award a mark. Type a name and press Award. The list holds up to eight rows, which is enough for a typical party plus a guest. Press Award on a row later if that character earns inspiration again after spending it.

Spend it when they use it. Press Spend to clear the mark. The note reminds you of both common rules: advantage on an attack roll, saving throw or ability check under the 2014 rules, or a reroll of any one die under the 2024 Heroic Inspiration rule.

Keep it on this device. The list stays in your browser until you press Clear or remove a row. Nothing is uploaded.

After a spend for advantage, roll on the advantage roller or the d20 roller. Saving throws have their own saving throw roller, and attacks have the attack roller.

What inspiration is for

Inspiration is a table-facing reward, not a spell and not a class feature you look up on a sheet. A game master can award it when someone does something the table wants to see more of: a bold plan, a vivid portrayal or a moment that makes the scene better.

Under the 2014 rules (SRD 5.1), you either have inspiration or you do not. Spending it gives you advantage on one attack roll, saving throw or ability check. Under the 2024 rules (SRD 5.2.1), Heroic Inspiration is spent to reroll any one die after you see the result, which can be a d20 or a damage die.

This page does not decide when a game master should award it, and it does not spend it for you in the middle of another tool. It only tracks the mark.

Related tools

Advantage and disadvantage themselves are explained on the advantage page, with the chance math for middling DCs. If you are deciding whether to spend inspiration on a tough save, check the chance on the saving throw page first. Combat turn order still lives on the initiative tracker, and the main DnD dice roller handles any other notation.

Each related roll uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, with extra values thrown out so no face is favored. See the about page for the method, or the FAQ for privacy details.

Inspiration tracker FAQ

Is this inspiration tracker free?

Yes. It is free, with no ads and no sign up. Open the page on any device and keep count.

How does inspiration work in 5e?

A game master can award inspiration for memorable roleplaying or clever play. Under the 2014 rules (SRD 5.1), a player who has it can spend it to gain advantage on an attack roll, saving throw or ability check. Under the 2024 rules (SRD 5.2.1), Heroic Inspiration lets you reroll any one die instead.

Can inspiration stack?

Usually no. Most tables treat inspiration as something you either have or you do not. Awarding it again while a character already has it does not add a second mark on this page.

Does the tracker save if I refresh the page?

Yes. Names and whether each person has inspiration stay in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to a server. Press Clear to wipe the list.

Where do I roll after I spend it?

For 2014-style advantage, open the advantage roller or the d20 roller and pick Advantage. For a 2024 reroll, roll again on the matching die page or the main dice roller and keep the new face if the table allows it.

See the Nat20 Roller FAQ for more on notation, advantage and how rolls stay random.
